With another year of vacation on the horizon, dozens of people will be looking to spend their summer vacations in Devon – preferably as close to the sea as possible. And you can’t get much closer than a beach hut.
Beach huts have grown in popularity in recent years – often requiring the equivalent of a small mortgage to purchase.
With their old world charm and sense of nostalgia, they are an iconic feature of many of Devon’s best-loved beaches, providing a safety net for personal belongings, a place to relax with loved ones and (God preserve us from it) a hasty retreat from time, when necessary.

But if you can’t afford to buy one – or if you just want to test the water before splashing the cash – there’s always the option of renting one.
A new report, titled Beach Hut Britain, from money.co.uk has revealed the cheapest destinations to rent a beach hut this summer.
Three beaches in Devon were among the ten most affordable places to rent a beach hut in the UK. These include Dawlish in South Devon, which turned out to have the second cheapest beach huts in the UK, at just £ 103 for rent per week, followed by Broadsands, near Paignton, in £ 105 per week.
Torquay’s Meadfoot Beach took ninth place, at £ 140 per week.
In the UK as a whole, the cheapest beach huts have been found on Mablethorpe Beach in Lincolnshire, with an average rental cost of £ 75 per week.
To compile the report, the researchers researched the most and least popular destinations with beach huts, and then compared the prices of the cabanas available for rent.
Among the most sought after coastal spots with beach huts over the past three years was Barry Island, famous for being home to Stacey West, mother Gwen, uncle Brynn and best friend Nessa on the BBC sitcom, Gavin and Stacey.
The most expensive place to rent a beach hut was Wells Beach in Norfolk, where the highest price was £ 750 for a week, and the average cost was £ 515 per week.
Next are Herne Bay, Kent, with a weekly average of £ 466, and Mudeford Sandbank, Bournemouth, at £ 434 per week.
The list of the ten most affordable UK beach hut rental destinations is below.
