Lindsey Vonn reveals her mother Lindy Anne Lund died of ALS

Lindsey Vonn announced that her mother, Lindy Anne Lund, passed away Thursday night with a post that was shared to her Instagram account on Saturday.

The 37-year-old performer has shared several throwback photos featuring her late relative, who died of complications from ALS, which she was diagnosed with last year.

The former Olympian’s rep also issued a statement to People confirming the news.

The statement began with: “Lindsey Vonn’s mother, Lindy Anne Lund, died Thursday evening of ALS, exactly one year after the day of her diagnosis.”

The rep said Vonn “was incredibly grateful for the time she had spent with her since the diagnosis and to be there by her side during her passing.”

They went on to write that the professional athlete would be involved in more charitable activities for organizations focused on ALS.

“In honor of her mother’s relentless fighting spirit, Lindsey is dedicated to learning more about and helping to raise awareness about this deadly disease,” she said.

Vonn then wrote a lengthy message on her Instagram post, in which she wrote that “my sweet mum Lindy has lost her battle with ALS.”

She insisted on writing that her mother “passed away peacefully while I held her hand”.

The athlete went on to express that her mother left a lasting impact on her over the years.

“I’m so grateful for every moment I spent with her, but I’m also grateful that she is no longer in pain and is at peace. She was a shining light that will never fade and I will always be inspired by her,” she wrote.

She added that Lund was “my inspiration not because of what she has done for my skiing career, but how her perpetual positivity has shaped me into the person I am and, most importantly, into off the tracks”.

The professional athlete went on to illustrate how her late mother had been one of her role models.

“Every adversity I encountered I found perspective and inspiration in her. Throughout the many trials of her life, they only made her stronger, kinder and more humble. This guy of courage is what has shaped me since I was a child,” she wrote.

Vonn then wrote a personal message to her late mother expressing how she wanted to emulate her in the future.

“Mom, I hope that one day I will be as tough as you. I hope that I approach each day with as much energy and optimism as you. I hope that one day I will raise my children to May they be as amazing as you. I love you,” she wrote.

The professional athlete also shared a photo on her Instagram story and added a message that read, “My beautiful mother is in heaven now.”
