Kogi: Monarch bans night-time receptions due to resurgence of sects in Lokoja

Given the recent upsurge in worship activities in Lokoja and its surroundings, the Maigari de Lokoja, Alh. (Dr.) Muhammadu Kabiru Maikarfi III, has banned all evening receptions in the city of Lokoja until further notice.

DAILY POST recalls that there have been clashes between rival sectarian groups which have resulted in the death of certain individuals in certain neighborhoods of the metropolis of Lokoja.

These notorious gangs were found to take advantage of occasions such as night weddings to carry on their infamous activities within Maigari Palace, Old Market, Kabawa, Karaworo, a suburb of Lokoja community.

DAILY POST, however, has learned that the Maigari has given this directive to all of the neighborhood chiefs and designated chiefs in Lokoja who have anything to do with night duties.

The Sarkin Wasa in Lokoja, Mall. Muhammadu Baba Shata, while confirming this to our correspondent in Lokoja on Sunday evening, said that traditional artists were urged to respect the law and view the ban as a sacrifice for restoring peace to their environment, especially the traditional streets of Lokoja.

“You will recall that cult-related activities are becoming a serious challenge in Lokoja now, which is perpetuated mainly at night and mainly results in the loss of lives and property of innocent people and petty traders,” he said.
