EasyJet and Ryanair passport warnings leave travelers confused about travel rules

Conflicting advice on flying abroad towards the end of your passport’s expiration date has left some travelers confused. The Passport Office warns people that they can wait 10 weeks or more to get their passport renewed, prompting some to worry about their holidays and wondering how far from the passport’s expiration date you can actually travel.

A tweet from the Passport Office on Monday April 4 said: “Is your passport due to expire? You will need to allow up to 10 weeks to process your passport application when applying from the UK.” However, the Echo reports that according to ABTA, if you have a UK passport, you will need at least three months on your passport and your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years to travel abroad. How much time you need on your passport also depends on the country you are visiting and who you are traveling with.

People have taken to social media to express their confusion over whether or not they can fly. On Twitter, Mr Chips said: “Fly with Ryanair 4/22 L, return 4/28. Just under four months left on passport (was new, no extra months). Ryanair says six months , everywhere else says three. What’s the problem? Not updated their terms and conditions? How long should you stay on your passport?

If your passport is about to expire, you may be refused entry to the country you are visiting. The Post’s website states: “While most countries like Australia, Canada and the United States just need your passport to be valid for the duration of your stay, other countries like China, Thailand, Egypt and Turkey require at least six months You must have at least six months on an adult or child passport to travel to most countries in Europe (excluding the ‘Ireland).

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.

New Zealand

Your passport must be valid for a minimum period of one month from the date of exit.

Singapore

Your passport must be valid for at least six months.

South Africa

The rules state that your passport must be valid for at least 30 days from the date of exit, but it is recommended that you have at least six months on your passport before it expires. Your passport must also have at least two blank pages when entering or leaving South Africa.

Thailand

Your passport must be valid for at least six months.

Turkey

Your passport must be valid for at least six months.

UNITED STATES

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. However, your passport must be a biometric ePassport with the silver camera symbol on the front. There are also a number of other rules for entering the United Stateswhich you should check before you travel.

Passport rules for different airlines

Ryanair

Ryanair states that you need a valid passport to travel anywhere in the world.

For travel outside the EEA (European Economic Area), the passport must be valid for the period of intended stay, with the exception of the countries below:

  • To travel to Jordan, the passport must be valid for six months beyond the period of intended stay.
  • To travel to Turkey, the passport must be valid for six months from the date of entry.
  • To travel to Montenegro, the passport must be valid for at least three months.
  • To travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the passport must be valid for at least three months.

All non-EU passport holders traveling to a Schengen member country must ensure that their passport is valid for at least three months from the date they will leave the Schengen member country, unless the no one has a residence permit issued by Schengen or a long-term residence permit. Visa.

EasyJet
