Darlene Headrick Thompson obituary (1943 – 2021) – Tompkinsville, KY

Darlene Headrick Thompson, also known to her family as Mom, Grandma and GiGi, has lost her courageous battle with cancer. She passed away with her loved ones by her side at home on Thursday, September 30, 2021.
She was born in Tompkinsville, KY to the late Almond & Ruth (Wheat) Headrick on March 16, 1943. She was the fifth in six children and was the little girl. She was predeceased by her sister Clova Dean Lyon, brothers Donald Lee Headrick, Maxey Doyle Headrick and William David Headrick. She is survived by her brother Darrell (Eva Pearl) of Tompkinsville, Ky.
She was the foundation of her family and will be truly missed by her 3 children. Son, Timothy James Jones (Oklahoma City, OK), daughter Melanie Ruth Montgomery (Wayne) of Shelbyville, IN and Cyndi Gay Ivins (Chris) of Lufkin, TX.
She was the grandmother of Amber Moore, Ashley Bierman (Lonny), Alicia Saylor (Eddie), Blake Montgomery (Jessica), Zachary Montgomery (fiance Erin), Lindsay Tillison (Jacob), Morgan Ivins (Kaitlyn), Lauren Ivins and William Montgomery. She was GiGi to 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many very close friends.
She graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1961.
She retired from Western Electric in 1985, but wasn’t the stay-at-home type. She went to work for Reserve National and worked there for 10 years, where she made special and lasting friendships.
She enjoyed her many friends and her days spending time with the girls in Crescent, Oklahoma, where she previously resided. They had many adventures together, and there was a lot of porch swinging just to reflect on life and enjoy the view! She was passionate about bowling and was part of a bowling league in her youth. His hobbies included reading, working in his flower garden, and making silk flower arrangements.
Since returning to Indiana, she has spent time with her grandchildren and given them advice when she felt it was needed. She loved watching her many great-grandchildren play and always loved sleepovers with them.
She will be missed by her friends and family here on earth, but we know that she is looking forward to heaven to be reunited with her family, I am sure they see the beautiful sights and look forward to the day we are there. will see again.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Yokley Trible Funeral Home, 510 West Fourth Street, Tompkinsville, KY. Visitations take place after 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
