North Wales sees another Covid death with nearly 600 cases recorded in a day

Almost 600 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in North Wales, according to the latest official figures – while another person with the virus has died. Statistics from Public Health Wales released on Monday March 21 show the number of people who have died with Covid-19 in North Wales since the start of the coronavirus pandemic is now 1,262.

Meanwhile, four more deaths have been reported across the country. A total of 577 cases have been reported in North Wales in today’s figures, bringing the number of recorded infections in the region to 162,387.

Flintshire recorded the highest number of new cases in the health board area of ​​Betsi Cadwaladr with 140, followed by Wrexham with 118 and Gwynedd with 111. The lowest number of new cases was in Anglesey where 41 new cases were recorded.

Today’s update covers the 24 hour period until 9am on Friday. Tomorrow’s (Tuesday) update covers the 72 hours until 9am Monday, which means the numbers are likely to be three times higher than updates released on other days. Public Health Wales is no longer publishing new case and death numbers over the weekend.

Seven-day infection rates have increased in all parts of North Wales. The latest figures cover the week to March 14.

Nationwide, 2,566 new cases have been reported. This brings the total number of infections recorded since the start of the pandemic in Wales to 840,270, while 7,070 people have now died.

There have now been 2,525,768 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine administered in Wales, while 2,396,378 people have been double-shot. In addition, 62,761 people received a third dose.

The figures also show that 1,929,743 people had a recall. Boosters and third doses are recorded separately, with the third dose given to those considered immunocompromised.
