The 86-year-old kidnapped mother of Bayelsa State Secretary of Government Ms Betinah Benson has been released and reunited with her family after 34 days with her captors.
GSU, the Hon. Kombowei Benson, who took to his personal Facebook page to confirm the release, said, “Thanks be to Almighty God my sweet mother is back in Yenagoa.”
DAILY POST, previously reported that Madam Kombowei was kidnapped by thugs who invaded her residence in the former Assembly quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa with military uniforms.
Also remember that Mrs. Betinah Benson was kidnapped for the first time in 2013, in her community of Korokorosei, her country house, in the local government area of Ijaw, in the state of Bayelsa, and that she was held with her captors for several days before being released.
DAILY POST, also reported that the State Police Command, through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer SP Asinim Butswat, said that “the State Police Command of Bayelsa has launched a manhunt for the rescue of Ms Betinah Benson and the arrest of the suspects ”.
Mrs. Betinah Benson, 80, was kidnapped on July 20, 2021, around 11:00 p.m. at her residence in Old Legislative Quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian military arrested a 27-year-old suspect a few days ago after resuming the investigation into the kidnapping of the octogenarian.
The kidnappers had previously demanded a ransom of 500 million naira for his release.
The suspect, whose names have been given as Stanley Woniowei, is a native of the Olugbobiri community in the southern Ijaw local government area of the state.
