2000 Upper Deck MVP Baseball Box Break, Review and Breakdown

It’s here! It is finally here ! The 2022 National Sports Collectors Convention begins today in Atlantic City. I haven’t been to a National since 2018 in Cleveland and have been looking forward to this one for a while now. So many cards in one room, it’s amazing. Now, while I will definitely be buying cards this week, the highlight for me is the people. Even if I don’t buy anything, it’s worth spending time with amateur friends and making new ones. If you’ve never been there, I strongly suggest you try to incorporate it into your plans at least once. Anyway, back to what you all came here for, cheap wax.

Upper Deck retired the Collector’s Choice brand in 1998, replacing it with 1999 UD Choice. The brand only lasted a year, however, with Upper Deck MVP somewhat taking the place of the valuable product once held by Collector’s Choice.

2000 Upper Deck MVP Baseball includes a base deck of 220 cards. There are three parallels to look for for each base card: Silver Script and Gold Script (/50) and Super Script (/25). There’s also an impressive checklist of in-game keepsake cards to be found in this one. They are difficult draws, however, and found about once in five squares.

Package 28:

Kerry Wood, Mo Vaughn, Omar Vizquel, Eric Gagne, Juan Gonzalez, Lou Gehrig Jersey, MLB 2001 0 & Troy O’Leary Silver Script (1:2 packs)

Finally, Juan Gonzalez’s card back. Juan-Gone was an absolute beast in the 90s.

It was a box of about $45 when it was released in 2000. As a kid it was probably quite pricey, but looking at where the prices of products are sold these days it would have been an absolute steal. It’s a fun break, with a good mix of parallels and inserts. The checklist used by the game is quite short and features a few big names. That luck alone might be enough for me to give this one another shot if I find it at a dealer table this week.
