175 years of Ulysse Nardin: the new fleet of five Marine Torpilleur timepieces

Celebrating an illustrious 175-year history of marine chronometer manufacturing, 2021 marks the anniversary of luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin.

Supply of 10,000 chronometers to 50 navies of the 19e century, specialty watches put the Swiss brand on the watchmaking map. Paying homage to the brand’s heritage as a manufacturer of marine chronometers, Ulysse Nardin has released a fleet of five new models in its Marine Torpilleur collection.

The limited edition wristwatch series includes Blue Enamel, Panda, Moonphase, Annual Chronograph and the Tourbillon Grand Feu Enamel. Here is an overview of the all new Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur models.

Navy Blue Enamel Torpedo Boat

At the head of the anniversary editions is the Marine Torpilleur Blue Enamel, the most similar in overall design to classic marine chronometers. The big fire The blue enamel dial is 90 percent handcrafted by an independent enamel workshop based in Le Locle, Switzerland, at Donzé Cadrans. Notable features include; a pair of cathedral hands, Roman numerals and two sub-dials for the power reserve and running seconds. This timepiece is limited to 175 interpretations at a cost of approximately $ 15,378.

Panda Torpedo Boat

The Marine Torpilleur Panda follows the trend of two-tone contrast on watch faces. Ulysse Nardin places the power reserve and the small seconds / date functions in dark blue sub-dials on a white background. This gives the watch a resemblance to the face of a Panda, hence the name, and applies a modern industry trend to a historical base design. Limited to 300 pieces, the Marine Torpilleur Panda is priced at around A $ 10,965.

Marine Torpilleur Annual Chronograph

The annual chronograph is arguably the most streamlined design in the collection and arguably the most functional. It combines an annual calendar and a split-seconds chronograph, inspired by the brand’s Torpilleur pocket watches. The originals, created from 1936 to 1980, measured time to 1 / 10th of a second. The modern interpretation is available in a matt blue or varnished white dial with both color options limited to 300 pieces and priced at around A $ 16,180.

Marine Torpedo Boat Moon Phase

As the name suggests, the Marine Torpedo Boat Moonphase combines the annual calendar with a new moon phase feature. Inspired by early astronomers and the practice of astral navigation for ships, Ulysse Nardin has presented many moon phase watches since the 19th century. The Marine Torpilleur Moonphase is available in varnished white or sunshine blue dials with ornate Roman numerals. Like its sister models, the Moonpahse is limited to 300 pieces of both colourways with a price tag of around $ 13,238A.

Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon Enamel Grand Feu

The jewel of the new Marine Torpilleur collection is undoubtedly the Tourbillon Grand Feu Email. The model represents the exquisite timing precision of Ulysse Nardin’s first chronographs. It comes in black grand feu enamel with rose gold hands and an open flying tourbillon movement. The special edition watch features the award-winning Ulysses Anchor escapement. Limited to 175 pieces, the Grand Feu Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon enamel costs around A $ 64,723.
